Crafty & Chic DIY: Boho Rope Drink Coasters

A cozy handmade home décor vlog tutorial

Welcome back to Twirl Craft Studio — where we turn simple materials into crafty & chic home décor ✨Today’s project is one of my favorite kinds of DIYs: easy, affordable, and secretly looks like something you’d find in a boutique.

We’re making boho rope drink coasters using natural jute rope, a little patience, and a lot of cozy vibes. These are perfect for coffee tables, entertaining, or gifting — and once you make one, you’ll probably make five more. (Ask me how I know 😅)

✨ What You’ll Need

  • Natural jute or cotton rope

  • Hot glue gun + glue sticks

  • Scissors

  • Optional: masking tape, fabric glue, or a strong craft adhesive

Optional extras:

  • Macramé cord for a decorative edge

  • Fabric stiffener if you want extra structure

🌿 Step 1: Start the Coil

Begin by tightly coiling the end of your rope into a small spiral. This will be the center of your coaster.

📍 Twirl tip: I like to add a small dot of glue every inch or so to keep the coil secure. Too much glue = chaos. Too little glue = unraveling drama.

Keep wrapping the rope around itself, pressing gently as you go so the coaster stays flat.

🌿 Step 2: Build the Base

Continue coiling until your coaster reaches the size you like. This is where the magic starts happening — suddenly it goes from random rope to “ohhh, this might actually work.”

📍 If the coaster starts to curl upward, just flip it over and gently press it flat while the glue is still warm.

🌿 Step 3: Add the Boho Fringe (Optional but Highly Encouraged)

Once your base is done, you can stop here for a clean, modern look — or go full boho and add fringe.

To do this, cut small sections of rope or macramé cord and glue them evenly around the outer edge. This instantly adds texture and that cozy, handmade feel.

📍 Honest moment: This part can get a little messy… but messy is where the charm lives.

🌿 Step 4: Trim & Tidy

After the glue has cooled, trim the fringe so it’s even. You can keep it soft and wispy or a little thicker for a more rustic look.

This is also the moment where everything suddenly looks intentional — crafting magic ✨

🌿 Step 5: Let It Set

Give your coaster a few minutes to fully set before using it. Grab a coffee, admire your work, and enjoy that “I made this” feeling.

Final Thoughts

These boho rope coasters are one of those projects that feel relaxing to make and satisfying to use. They’re neutral, cozy, and endlessly customizable — and they pair beautifully with modern, rustic, or boho home décor.

If you try this DIY, I’d love to see it!Tag @TwirlCraftStudio or share your version on social media so we can craft together 💛

Until next time —✨ Take time to twirl ✨
