Why I Design As I Go

One of the funniest things about sharing tutorials online is reading the comments that say:
“Wouldn’t it have been easier if you did that part first?”
“Why didn’t you shape the wire before wrapping it?”
“Was that your original plan?”
And honestly… most of the time, the answer is:Nope. 😂
A lot of my projects are created in real time while I’m sitting at my craft table. I usually start with a general idea, a piece of copper wire, and a dangerous amount of confidence. After that? The design kind of takes on a personality of its own.
One spiral suddenly needs three spirals.A clean, simple project somehow ends up with beads.Something gets wrapped, unwrapped, hammered, adjusted, stared at dramatically… and then adjusted again.
That’s just how I create.
For me, crafting isn’t always about following a perfect blueprint from beginning to end. Sometimes it’s about experimenting, changing direction halfway through, and allowing the project to evolve naturally.
I think a lot of crafters secretly do this too — even if we pretend we had a flawless master plan all along. 😂
Some of my favorite designs happened because I changed my mind halfway through the tutorial. What started as one idea became something completely different… and usually more interesting.
So if you ever watch one of my tutorials and think:
“Wait… that wasn’t part of the original plan…”
You’re probably right. 🤣
And honestly? That’s part of the fun.
Creativity can be messy, unpredictable, slightly chaotic… and sometimes that’s exactly where the best ideas show up.
