I love that you can completely change the look simply by changing the beads. I made mine with gorgeous red and green beads for Christmas, but clear crystal-style beads, icy blues, white, silver or even multicoloured beads would be beautiful too. And remember—these are handmade! Your spirals don’t have to be perfectly identical. Those little differences are what give handmade copper wire art its character. These snowflakes look beautiful hanging on a Christmas tree, but I think they would also make gorgeous window decorations, suncatchers, gift toppers or handmade Christmas gifts. What colour beads would YOU use? ❤️💚💎 And would you hang yours on your Christmas tree or in a window? 🧰 MATERIALS For this copper wire snowflake ornament, I used: • 16-gauge copper wire • 9 pieces – 5" / 13 cm each • 1 piece – 11" / 28 cm for the centre spiral • 20-gauge copper wire for wrapping and securing • 6 beads that fit over 16-gauge wire • Hot glue – optional, for temporarily holding the centre in position • Clear tape – optional beginner helper Important: Check your beads before you begin to make sure the holes are large enough for your 16-gauge wire. 🔨 TOOLS • Round-nose pliers • Flat-nose pliers • Wire cutters • Hot-glue gun – optional ❄️ HOW THE SNOWFLAKE COMES TOGETHER We start by cutting nine 5-inch pieces of 16-gauge copper wire. Three pieces become the beaded spokes, with a bead and small loop at each end. The remaining six pieces get spirals at both ends before being folded in half to create those decorative curly details. Next, the spiral pieces are attached to the three beaded spokes using 20-gauge copper wire. Once all three sections are finished, they are arranged across one another to create the six arms of the snowflake. I use a tiny amount of hot glue to temporarily keep everything from moving while I secure the centre with 20-gauge wire. For the finishing touch, an 11-inch / 28 cm piece of 16-gauge copper wire becomes the decorative double-sided spiral in the centre. Then comes my favourite part—adjusting all those little spirals until everything looks just right! ✨ TWIRL TIP: Try lightly hammering some of the copper spirals if you want to add texture and extra shimmer. You can also experiment with different beads. I even took apart a thrift-store necklace to get some of mine. This copper wire candle holder tutorial turns an ordinary battery candle into a warm, one-of-a-kind piece of handmade decor using copper spirals, beads, and a little creativity. I love projects where there really isn't one “perfect” way to make them, and this is definitely one of those. For this project, I created a free-form copper wire frame around a battery-operated candle and added spirals, flowing wire shapes, and colourful beads along the way. Once the candle is switched on, the warm light behind the copper completely changes the look of the piece. And because we're working with handmade spirals and curves, your version doesn't need to look exactly like mine. Change the bead colours, make your spirals larger or smaller, keep it simple, or add more detail. That's part of the fun. ✨ PLEASE NOTE: I recommend using a battery-operated LED candle for this project rather than an open-flame candle. Create a **DIY rain chain** using 10-gauge copper wire and chunky beads in this complete **copper rain chain** tutorial! This **handmade rain chain** is a beautiful **garden decor DIY**, combining an easy **copper wire craft** with weather-resistant beads to create unique **outdoor decor** that can be customized completely to your own style. This project actually started as a Twirl Creative Challenge. I showed you how to make one simple copper link and challenged you to use that link as the starting point for your own rain chain. Then I sat down to make mine…and got completely stuck! 😂 The original link just wasn’t taking me where I wanted to go creatively, so instead of forcing it, I changed direction. I still used that original link a couple of times, but I decided to let the beads themselves dictate the rest of the design. And I’m really glad I did. Because my chunky beads were all different shapes and sizes, I made each copper section different too. Some have spirals, some have flowing S-shaped curves, some have larger loops, and others almost look like little butterflies. The result is a roughly **5-foot handmade copper rain chain** where every section is a little different. That’s one of my favourite things about working with copper wire—you don’t always have to know exactly where the design is going when you start. For the larger beads, you may need to get a little creative with sourcing. Mine actually came from a lamp I found at a thrift store. I took the lamp apart and discovered these beautiful chunky beads that were perfect for an outdoor rain chain. Thrift stores, old lighting, broken jewellery, shells, stones, glass pieces and other weather-resistant objects can all be great places to look for interesting materials. I also haven’t included exact wire measurements for every link in this tutorial because your measurements will depend entirely on the size and shape of the beads you find. My biggest advice? **Give yourself more wire than you think you need.** You can always trim off the extra—but adding wire back once you’ve made your spirals is a little trickier! Once all of the individual bead sections are finished, I lay everything out and decide what order looks best. Then I connect the sections together using simple copper S-links. You could also add two or three decorative S-shaped links between your bead sections if you want to make your rain chain longer. This is definitely one of those projects where there really isn’t one “correct” design. Make every section identical for a clean repeating pattern…or do what I did and make every link completely different. Make this DIY copper wire bracelet with me in this easy wire jewelry tutorial featuring handmade spiral links and a simple copper hook clasp. This copper spiral bracelet is a beginner-friendly handmade jewelry project made with 16-gauge copper wire, basic jewelry pliers, and no soldering required. If you love copper wire jewelry, spirals are one of those simple techniques that can turn into something that looks much more complicated than it actually is. For this bracelet, I’m making individual copper spirals, linking them together, and finishing everything with a handmade hook-and-loop clasp. The best part is that you can adjust the number of links to make the bracelet fit your own wrist. I usually make about 11–14 spiral links, depending on the size I want. One little tip: before cutting all of your connecting links, make the first couple and test them between two spirals. If they’re slightly too long, trim them down and then use that measurement for the rest. It saves a lot of fiddling later! And because everything is handmade, your spirals definitely don’t have to be perfectly identical. Those little differences are part of what gives handmade copper jewelry its character. Turn a simple mason jar into a glowing DIY solar mason jar lantern using copper wire, beads, shells and a solar light. In this copper wire craft tutorial, I’ll show you how I created this handmade lantern with decorative wire loops, dangling beads, copper spirals and a removable design you can customize again and again. This is one of those DIY home decor projects where you really don’t have to make yours exactly like mine. Change the beads, add more copper spirals, use different colours, simplify it—or completely fill it up. That’s half the fun. ✨ HANDMADE COPPER MASON JAR LANTERN For this project, I started by creating repetitive loops from 16-gauge copper wire to form the decorative band around the mason jar. One little trick that makes a big difference: when making repetitive loops, try to use the same position on your round-nose pliers each time. Your loops don’t need to be perfect, but this helps keep them relatively consistent. Because I wasn’t sure how much wire I would need, I left the copper attached to the spool while I worked and simply kept testing it around the mason jar. Once the copper band was finished, I started adding the fun part—the dangling decorations. I used 20-gauge copper wire with small beads to create simple hanging strands, usually adding around three to six beads to each one. I finished the ends with simple S-shaped links. I wouldn’t use this type of connection for jewelry because it isn’t designed to withstand lots of pulling, but for lightweight decorations hanging from a lantern, it works well. Then came the copper embellishments. Using 16-gauge copper wire, I made little: ✨ Spirals ✨ Flowers ✨ Squiggles ✨ Freeform shapes I lightly hammered some of them to flatten the copper and add a little texture. This step is completely optional. I then mixed the copper pieces throughout the colourful bead strands instead of trying to make everything perfectly symmetrical. Sometimes the random combinations are the ones that end up being the most interesting. After hanging the decorations around the mason jar, I added stones and shells inside and temporarily placed the solar lid on top so I could step back and see how everything was coming together. I do this constantly when designing. Put it together. Look at it. Take something away. Add something else. And occasionally remind myself that I actually have to stop eventually. 😂 For the decorative copper section around the top, I used approximately 56 inches of 12-gauge copper wire. I simply bent the wire back and forth into loose squiggles, molding it around the jar as I worked. This piece is decorative and removable because I wanted to make sure I could still open the mason jar later. That means I can change the shells, stones, beads or other decorations inside whenever I want. I also painted the solar lid with metallic paint I already had. That small change really helped the lid blend into all the copper instead of looking like a separate piece sitting on top. Finally, I created the handle with heavier 12-gauge copper wire. And naturally, that was the exact moment my large flat-nose pliers decided to disappear. 😂 Working with 12-gauge wire is MUCH easier with larger pliers, so learn from me and locate yours before starting. Once everything was together, the solar light completely changed the look. During the day you see all the copper, beads, shells and colourful little details. At night, the light catches everything and turns it into this warm glowing handmade lantern. And because so many of the decorations are removable, you could make this project completely different using the same basic idea. What would you put inside yours? Slight differences are what give handmade copper wire art its character. If something looks a little wonky after hammering, reshape it. I do this constantly. Keep stepping back and looking at the entire piece rather than concentrating on one small area. Sometimes what looks strange up close works perfectly once the whole design comes together. And don’t feel like every empty space needs to be filled. Learn how to make a DIY suncatcher, copper wire art, sun and moon catcher, fairy light craft, and crystal window decoration all in one easy step-by-step tutorial. This copper wire suncatcher tutorial combines chandelier crystals, handmade wire spirals and tiny fairy lights to create a piece that sparkles in the sunlight by day and glows beautifully at night. ✨🌙 This might be one of my favourite ways to combine copper and crystals because you really get two completely different looks from one project. During the day, the chandelier beads catch the sunlight and scatter tiny rainbows around the room. When evening comes, switch on the fairy lights and your suncatcher turns into a warm glowing window decoration. And although the finished piece looks fairly elaborate, it’s made using some of my favourite simple wire techniques — open spirals, loose curves, S-shaped links and wire wrapping. We’ll start with 36 inches of 10-gauge copper wire and form the large spiral that becomes the focal point of the catcher. From there, the remaining wire is shaped into a loose zigzag above the spiral. Once the basic shape is finished, we’ll hammer the copper on a steel block. Hammering not only adds that beautiful handmade texture, it also work-hardens the copper and helps the large frame hold its shape. And yes… after hammering, you may need to reshape it a little. Copper sometimes likes to renegotiate the design. 😂 Next comes my favourite part — the sparkle! Using 22-gauge copper wire, we’ll attach chandelier crystals throughout the curves of the zigzag and around the spiral. There’s no exact formula for crystal placement. I like to hold the piece up every once in a while and decide where it needs a little more sparkle. A larger teardrop chandelier crystal finishes the bottom of the spiral and gives the catcher some extra movement when it’s hanging in the window. Then we add the feature that turns this from an ordinary suncatcher into a Sun & Moon Catcher — fairy lights! The tiny lights are wrapped around the main copper frame, following the curves and spiral. Just remember one very important step before wrapping them around your entire project… Test the lights first. 😂 We’ll leave some extra fairy-light wire near the top because we’re going to continue those lights through the hanging chain. To make the chain, I create several loose S-shaped copper spirals from approximately 9-inch pieces of heavier copper wire. These are alternated with small groups of chandelier crystal links to make a decorative chain that continues the copper-and-crystal design all the way to the top. Finally, the remaining fairy lights are wrapped through the upper chain. And that’s it! Hang your finished Sun & Moon Catcher near a sunny window and watch the crystals create little rainbow reflections during the day. Then, once the sun goes down, turn on your fairy lights and enjoy an entirely different look. One project.
