Where to Buy 10 - 12 Gauge Copper Wire

Many people ask where I get my thick copper wire for projects like plant sticks, window charms, structural wire art, and larger spirals. Most of my 10 and 12 gauge copper comes from two places: electrical scraps or the electrical section of hardware stores.
If you purchase copper wire from the electrical section, it usually comes wrapped in a plastic coating. To expose the beautiful bare copper underneath, I carefully remove the coating using an X-Acto knife. It takes a little patience, but the finished copper is absolutely worth it.
One VERY important thing I’ve learned over time: always look at the actual wire — not just the gauge label on the package. Sometimes “10 gauge” wire is actually made up of multiple tiny strands bundled together instead of one solid copper core. For wire art and structural projects, you want solid copper wire whenever possible. Be cautious of copper alloy wire as well — for the best shaping, hammering, and spirals, I recommend using 100% copper.
Thicker gauges like 10 and 12 are perfect for:🌀 Plant sticks🌀 Structural wire art🌀 Copper vases🌀 Larger spirals🌀 Projects that need strength and shape retention
One thing copper wire art has taught me: the right gauge makes EVERYTHING easier. Using the proper wire thickness can completely change how your project feels, bends, holds shape, and comes together.
